EMILY!!! I’m so happy you are okay. I literally held my breath reading this. And I’m struck by what mothers do to keep their children shielded from their suffering and aches. How often have I been Tatum with the Trolls…I imagine a lot!

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you Caroline! It was pretty intense but I’m happy to be on the other side. I think as women we are taught to make ourselves small, not cause too much trouble and then when we become mothers we turn that energy into “putting our kids first” but we do it at the detriment of ourselves…. The experience has made me understand my own mother a lot more 💗

Omg Emily, I was on the edge of my (bus) seat reading this. I’m so sorry this happened! I can totally relate to having the flurry of thoughts about everyone and everything else before attending to what’s happening inside me, and feeling like getting help would be a waste of everyone’s time. Why do we do this?! It’s actually so frustrating. It sounds like your instincts kicked in though, and right on time and that likely saved you, even if it was ‘nothing serious’. I remember having heart palpitations with my first pregnancy and they were no joke. I remember having to take a break in the middle of a busy sidewalk and sit on the floor. You did the right thing and I hope you’re feeling tons better.

Oh wow, Emily, I would be in the same delay mode myself, and I’m glad you decided to make the call. Frustrating that there are no answers for you yet—hopefully something will become clear in the next couple of weeks. I’m so impressed, from a writing perspective, that this essay is so good, so soon after the event, bravo. And I’m taking you as a role model, too, to get help when I need it, and sooner rather than later.

Omg I’m so relieved you are okay!! And wow, do I completely understand putting off your own symptoms and chalking it up to “mom fatigue.” I’m so relieved you were able to get the care you needed in a timely way. Sending you a big hug.
