Some Good Stuff… Ten links, one mindblowing show, a mystery and a weird bit of sci-fi
But first, some words:
“Being able to see the end of anything gave him a tremendous sense of relief. As a child he had assumed the goal of medicine was to keep bodies alive forever; he had never considered the pain of not being able to die.” ~ Yoko Tawada
“I’m your huckleberry.” Best line. Best performance. Best movie. This article sums up the very interesting career of one of my favorite actors. (NYT)
I tear up when I think of all the art that will not be made during this time of fear and oppression. Please read this because Kaveh Akbar says it way better than I can. (The Nation)

This must be one of God’s favorite punks—giving us tiny, helpless mystics who morph so fast into the unvarnished petulance of all mankind: impatient, blabbering, impulsive, driven by manic wanting and ecstatic despair. ~ Isabel Cowles Murphy

I’ll be honest, this show fucked me up. I have a 13-year-old son, and I fear the digital world he’s inherited. More and more, I believe the algorithms are the root of the problem. Our local schools are considering banning smartphones from all schools, and I’M HERE FOR IT!

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty
Liane Moriarty is a master at giving us so many characters to love. It makes it easy to dip into different parts of life: Toxic break-ups, OCD, parenting, dating, marriage, grief, mental health... It makes me wonder how she does her research on all these topics. I also appreciated the subtle connections between all the characters that come together in the end.
I'd like to propose a new genre... Short dystopian sci-fi with pretty sentences that leave me with the thought... "What did I just read?" The adorable cover is a cherry on top.
